Jeannette and Daniel offer a bespoke and confidential service, at an hourly rate of £103, from 1st of January 2024. As advocates our role is to offer an experienced, independent consultancy service for families.

When working with Parents for an EHCP application, it is key to gather all background information, to review and note all existing specialist reports and documents. This initial stage often takes at least four hours and makes it possible to offer salient advice for next steps (about £450 each, cases vary).

The timeframe for the full process of securing an EHC Plan is set to take 20 weeks, as a national requirement. In reality this can take much longer, e.g. if local authorities refuse to assess a child - or refuse to issue an EHCP - and substantially longer, if a SENDIST appeal becomes necessary.

Once our services are engaged, a Letter of Engagment is provided, for clarity and confidence. Many parents seek educational advice and guidance on a wide range of options, as well as pursue an EHC Plan. The hourly rate applies to advisory meetings.

The EHCP process is a long hard process and is at times baffling and infuriating, having Daniel and Jeannette as advocates helped us immeasurably. As our advocates they liaised and negotiated on our behalf for our daughter and were able to lead us though the process and answer all our questions. They understood the timescales, when we should or shouldn’t push and shout, what all the jargon/ terminology used by the professionals meant essentially for our daughter and what help and specialist setting would suit her best. Our ten-year-old daughter is autistic and has other complex educational needs that were not being met in her primary school. This led to significant emotional distress and behavioural issues that meant she was very unhappy and was unable to cope in a mainstream environment. Together with the school we applied for an EHCP and were shocked when we were refused even an assessment. We did not realise at this time that the whole EHCP process is designed to be as difficult and complicated as possible, to put parents off continuing and to give LEA every opportunity to delay and refuse to help the child.

Fortunately, we contacted Jeannette after initial EHCP application was turned down and she guided us through the process and was able to explain at each stage what the options were. Jeannette put us in touch with suitable specialists (Clinical Psychology, SALT and OT) so we could gather appropriate evidence and build an accurate picture of our child’s educational needs.

Jeannette dealt with all communication with the LEA and all the documentation for the EHCP and we got to the point of a tribunal date. Having reached this stage, we were able to reach a legal agreement with the LEA on school placement without going to tribunal.

Our daughter is now in specialist school suitable to her needs and is finally able to cope with school on a day-to-day basis. She is starting to build friendships and has the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment.

Without Jeannette we would not have been able to get through the process to get our daughter the education and support she needed. Jeannette has been supportive, inclusive and kind throughout. We would not hesitate to thoroughly recommend her support for parents in a similar situation to us.
